The board of directors
According to its charter, the board of directors is the Foundation's only official body as well as its most important decision making panel. For all of the managers at the country offices as well as the Foundation's representation in India, the Foundation's board of directors is the highest authority in the hierarchy. The board consists of three members. In addition, a consultative committee acts as an informal advisory panel for the managing board.
One member of the board is active full time for the management of the Foundation, while the other two work voluntarily as members of the Foundation's internal control body for the management and the Foundation's activities.
President of the board
Martin Barth, a Lawyer, was appointed to the board of directors in 1984 and took over the function of the managing director of the board in 1990. Since April 1999, Martin Barth has held the position of the president of the board.

The advisory board
At this present time, the only member of the advisory board is Markus Engel, an architect, who advises the Samuel Foundation in many of its small and large building projects.
